- To follow is a brief introduction to our yoga practice and answers to many questions people may have as they begin they own personal practice. We also encourage you to reach out to our staff as you begin your journey.
Why is this Yoga practiced in a heated room?
Sweating is one of the most important mechanisms of natural healing. Our skin is the largest elimination organ of the body (even larger than your digestive system) and is the most effective in releasing toxins from the body. Toxins can come in the form of food, air, drink, stress and so on. The heated room accelerates the opening of the pores externally. When you combine this with the ujjayi breath (the breath we use in the practice that warms the body up internally), you have a POWERFUL cleansing practice!!
What are some benefits of Hot Yoga?
- Elimination of lower back pain
- Glowing skin
- Increased confidence
- Lower blood pressure
- Weight loss (if your body needs it)
- Improved posture
- Increased energy
- Clearer mind
- Less cravings for unhealthy habits (without much effort....it just happens)
- Improved reactions to stressful situations (some quicker than others)
- We could go on and on !!!!
Are there any studio policies I should be aware of before I begin my practice?
- TURN OFF your cell phones.
- Yoga mats are available for use at the studio. However, it is suggested with a consistent and regular practice that you purchase your own.
- Complimentary towels are offered but again, bringing one of your own is suggested. You will want a long, oversized towel that covers the majority of your mat. You will sweat! The thinner and more used the towel the better. The plush, thick towels tend to make you slide more.
- There should be NO personal belongings in the yoga room with you. This takes up too much space and clutters the area.
- ENJOY the benefits of this AWESOME gift of HEALTH and VITALITY!!!!!
What classes are appropriate for a beginner?
Any class is appropriate for all levels, you will be shown modifications for each pose for a more beginning or advanced ability.
How do I prepare for my first class?
- Arrive at least 20 minutes early to your first class.
- Refrain from eating up to two hours before class. If you must eat for any reason make sure it is something that digests quickly (banana, berries, etc.)
- Make sure to drink lots of water .....the day BEFORE your first class. If your first class is an evening class then drink the night before and the morning of. If you drink too much right before class you will be in the bathroom more than in class.
- Where any kind of workout gear that is comfortable.
- Be prepared to sweat.
- You can use any equipment that you will need for your first class at the studio. Otherwise, bring a mat and a beach towel (one that is long and thin).
- Bring a bottle of water to class.
What if I am not flexible?
It is important to understand that Yoga is not about flexibility. This misconception keeps many people from coming to a Yoga class. This particular form of Yoga develops strength (cardiovascular, muscular and respiratory), opens and lengthens your body through stretching and most importantly makes you feel amazing if you stick with it. At your very first class, you will learn the concept of trying yoga postures "the right way" enabling you to receive the FULL benefits of each pose according to your own ability.
Can I lose weight doing Hot Yoga?
Absolutely ! Regardless of your fitness level, this is a very challenging practice. Muscles are toned and strengthened. All of the body's systems are brought into balance. With consistent and dedicated practice you will lose pounds and inches.
How many times a week do I need to come in order to see a difference?
This will vary from person to person and once you start practicing you will know what is right for you. Generally speaking though, coming at least 2-3x a week is the minimum. However, it is important to note that there are people who come1-2 times a week and see a difference and others require 3-5 times. Once you have taken a few classes if this is still of concern to you, please speak to one of our staff members. Observing your practice will help us to determine the best advise to give to you.
